The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, AHS Calgary Zone is actively seeking a Section Chief in the Maternal Fetal Medicine section. Candidates that are currently working in the department as well as external candidates are eligible to apply. 
Deliverables are as follows: 
For all clinical, operational, quality, and patient safety issues, the Section Head will work collaboratively with Executive Directors responsible for the MFM portfolio, any relevant operational manager(s), facility medical director(s), the Zone Clinical Department Head for DCCM and all Zone Deputy Department Heads for DCCM. Collaboratively work with community health care providers, such as all Radiology groups, who have shared interest in provision of maternal imaging and screening services, conducting themself in a manner that represents Alberta Health Services in a transparent, equitable and patient-centered manner. For all clinical, operational, quality, and patient safety issues, the Section Head will work collaboratively with Executive Director responsible for the MFM portfolio, any relevant operational manager(s), facility medical director(s), the Zone Clinical Department Head for DCCM and all Zone Deputy Department Heads for DCCM. Work collaboratively with Executive Directors responsible for the MFM portfolio, any relevant operational manager(s), to support consistent MFM Physician coverage at AHS inpatient sites based on Zone operational needs. Respond in collaboration with the relevant Patient Care Manager(s) to patient/family concerns or complaints regarding the quality of care in AHS facilities. Participate as a member of the Calgary Zone Department of O&G Executive Committee & Calgary Zone Women’s Operations Committee. Participate as requested in Provincial Quality Management, Improvement and Innovation committees – presently known as Women’s Health Alberta. Participate in monthly leadership meetings with the Zone Deputy Department Head Obstetrics. Participate in site leadership meetings, as requested by Site Leads – General Obstetrics & Gynecology. Perform the role of Authorized Representative for the Maternal Fetal Medicine cARP, in conjunction with 1-2 additional cARP members. Organize quarterly, MFM physician specific meetings regarding clinical care, scheduling and cARP participation. Ensure adherence to provincial and zonal policies, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical practice guidelines relevant to Maternal-Fetal Medicine. Chair, as requested, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology sub-committees within the Calgary Zone. Support AHS in ensuring that maternal fetal medicine in hospital facilities and contracted programs meets accreditation standards. Assist the Department Head by providing input on the evaluation of attending physicians. Assist the Department Head in fostering clinical, scholarly, and professional development of individual physicians within the Section of Maternal Fetal Medicine. Assist the Department Head in the preparation of an annual report. Prepare quick reference site responsibility sheet to be given to a designate in case of emergencies/away from work. Develop physician leadership skills through learning opportunities such as PLI Courses organized by Medical Affairs, Alberta Health Services (for example, valuable courses may include Disruptive Behaviour, Serious Adverse Events and Difficult Conversation courses. Provide annual advice to the Department Head and/or their designate on workforce planning. Participate in Departmental search and selection processes relevant to Maternal Fetal Medicine, generally acting as the delegate for the Zone Clinical Department Head, as well as sometimes being the delegate for search and selection in other sections. The section leader supports clinical activities and acts as a site representative, alleviating administrative tasks from the Department Head and the department as a whole. The position acts as a bridge between patient care and administrative duties. Candidates must have their FRCSC in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and have administrative interest. All candidates will be required to have clinical academic appointments with the Cumming School of Medicine University of Calgary.

Qualifications:

FRCSC Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Incumbent must be an active member of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and a member in good standing.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Must read, write and speak English.
