Job Summary:
Recovery Alberta invites applications for the role of Site Medical Director, Adult Psychiatry & Mental Healthcare, Foothills Medical Centre (FMC). This position is key for success in ensuring an integrated, accessible, and accountable health care system by providing medical leadership and oversight of all services provided at FMC. in Calgary and focusing on collaborating within a provincially coordinated approach to optimizing access, quality, and sustainability.
This medical leadership role oversees all psychiatry programs and services at the site, including but not limited to:
• Inpatient beds
• Emergency Psychiatry Services
• Consultation & Liaison Services
• Day Hospital
• Site-based or site-run Outpatient programs
The role shall also ensure effective collaboration with other Recovery Alberta inpatient and outpatient programs and portfolios in the surrounding area and throughout the province.
Physician leadership is central to driving high-performing, patient-centered health systems. This role combines clinical expertise with strategic and operational leadership, ensuring that medical decision-making, program priorities and organizational goals remain aligned. The successful candidate will foster collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement while supporting physician engagement and excellence in clinical practice.
This role involves:
• Supporting physician workforce planning, recruitment, retention, supervision, and performance management.
• Ensuring timely access to high-quality mental health assessment, treatment, consultation and follow up care.
• Leading multidisciplinary teams and promoting a culture of collaboration, safety, wellness, and accountability.
• Monitoring clinical quality, patient safety, accreditation, readiness, and adherence to professional and organizational standards.
• Collaborating with operational leaders and stakeholders on strategic planning, service development, resource allocation, and operational priorities.
• Advancing physician engagement, standards of practice, medical education, and academic partnerships.
• Leading quality improvement, research, innovation, and change-management initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and service delivery.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will be a collaborative, effective, and respected physician leader who demonstrates strong communication skills, as well as a commitment to quality improvement and patient-centered mental health care. The successful candidate will be capable of building effective partnerships across clinical, operational, academic, and community environments.
The successful applicant must hold an MD or its equivalency, have or be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and shall have or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
In addition, the successful applicant shall:
• Have evidence of administrative, leadership, quality improvement, and/or medical management experience.
• Demonstrate the ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
• Have knowledge of inpatient and outpatient mental health services and the unique needs of those seeking psychiatric and mental healthcare services.
• Obtain and maintain a Recovery Alberta Medical Staff Appointment.
Additionally, holding or being eligible for an academic appointment with the applicable Faculty of Medicine would be an asset.

Reporting Relationship:
The practitioner will report to the Program Medical Director, Calgary Adult Psychiatry & Mental Healthcare.
Term:
Start date is negotiable.

Additional Information:
This position is 0.35 FTE.
Remuneration is in accordance with CMO Policy for contracted medical leadership positions.
