Alberta Health Services (AHS), Calgary Zone invites applications for the role of Site Medical Director, Airdrie Urgent Care (AUC).  This 0.2FTE medical leadership position with the Department of Rural Medicine reports to the Medical Director, Urgent Care, Calgary Zone and to the Zone Clinical Department Head, Rural Medicine.

The Site Medical Director provides leadership to the physician group at AUC and ensures clinical standards of care are met.  This role provides strategic guidance in planning, program development, and quality improvement and collaborates closely with the Urgent Care Executive Team.  In partnership with the Manager, Urgent Care, the Site Medical Director directs site-level services related to Urgent Care.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules, and AHS policies.
  • Support the goals and objectives of the Department of Rural Medicine and Alberta Health Services.
  • Actively contribute to the Urgent Care Executive Team by participating in regular meetings and supporting team initiatives.
  • Foster a collaborative and effective dyad partnership with the Manager, AUC
  • Lead recruitment of medical staff for Urgent Care services in alignment with Medical Affairs guidelines.
  • Ensure adequate medical staff coverage of the Urgent Care Centre during all hours of operation.
    • Prepare for and manage unexpected physician shortages.
  • Respond to fluctuating patient volumes and needs.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and initiatives; collaborate with medical staff to develop and lead initiatives which promote safe patient care.
  • Promote the ongoing continuing medical education (CME) of the medical staff.
  • Conduct periodic performance reviews of the AUC physicians in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws.

Required Qualifications:

  • Active license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (in good standing)
  • Experienced physician with urgent care or emergency department experience
    • Current member of the Calgary Zone Urgent Care medical staff (preference will be given to current member of the AUC medical staff)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to effectively develop and lead teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven organizational skills.
  • Ability to identify and balance priorities and interests of the public, Alberta Health Services and physicians

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional training or designation Emergency Medicine (CCFP-EM or FRCPC).
  • Academic Appointment with the University of Calgary
