Alberta Health Services, South Zone, is seeking the on-going services of an independently licensed physician to Surgical Assist all surgeons and surgical departments in a part time allocation at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Reside in and have their primary residence within the community of Medicine Hat
  • Abide by the AHS Medical Staff Rules and AHS policies
  • Obtain and maintain AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide services
  • Work collaboratively with peers and care team colleagues in support of patient care
  • Maintain a 0.5 FTE Surgical Assistant practice, approximately 2.5 days per week.    
    • Additional assisting opportunities may be available (elective surgeries, service reductions due to holidays or other conditions)
  • Provide occasional call support as per AHS’s call schedules and expectations for the practices in the Zone or as may otherwise be established or directed by an appropriate Medical Leader for Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (MHRH)
    • On-call is optional to be 1:4. 
  • Participate in quality improvement programs and initiatives undertaken within the appropriate Zone Clinical Department at the MHRH, including (without limitation) achievement of certain performance indicators as determined by AHS, exercising its discretion reasonably.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Have or be eligible for licensure as a Clinical and Surgical Assistant as a non-specialist defined to the role of a Clinical and Surgical Assistant with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (required with application)

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
  • College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
  • Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics (ALSO)
  • Pediatric Life Support (PALS)
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Preference given to those with recent experience (2 years) in surgical assisting in a Rural Operating Room/Large Regional Hospital Operating Room
