Description:
Alberta Health Services (AHS), Calgary Zone, invites applications for the role of Section Chief, Diamond Valley, Department of Rural Medicine. This 0.1FTE medical leadership position is governed by the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and reports to the Zone Clinical Department Head (ZCDH), Rural Medicine.
The Section Chief is responsible for the overall function and structure of the Section; they are the local AHS representative for the geographic area as well as the medical leader for Oilfields General Hospital. The expected start date is February 1, 2026.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Contribute expert guidance and advice on matters relating to the local provision of medical services to patients.
- Assist in the implementation of Provincial. Zone, and Zone Clinical Department policies and guidelines.
- Ensure adequate scheduling of physician supported programs and services at the hospital.
- Identify and address gaps in schedules/unfilled shifts in a timely manner.
- Identify and address gaps in schedules/unfilled shifts in a timely manner.
- Supervise the clinical work of Section members.
- Recommend Medical Staff Appointments and clinical privileges.
- Assist the ZCDH in performing reviews of Section members.
- Liaise with other site medical leaders.
- Collaborate with operational Site Manager in a dyad partnership to support quality, safe patient care at Oilfields General Hospital.
- Other duties may be delegated to the Section Chief by the ZCDH.
Qualifications:
- Independent licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
- Current member of the AHS Medical Staff, Section, Diamond Valley; the successful candidate is required to maintain a Medical Staff Appointment with the Department of Rural Medicine.
- The ideal candidate will have demonstrated ability to communication, conflict resolution, and a passion for quality and patient care. Leadership skills including demonstrated ability with decision-making responsibilities, managing change, and creating innovative solutions for complex issues are needed to be an effective leader.
