Position Description:
The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM), is seeking multiple short-term locums for predominantly adjunct evening and overnight admitting services during the winter viral season (October 1, 2026 – March 31, 2027).
These positions will support clinical service gaps primarily related to admitting new patients and aiding in patients throughout for the PHM service during both evening (15:00-23:00) and overnight (23:00-07:00) shifts, as well as supporting an additional inpatient team.
The Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine champions exceptional health care for hospitalized children and youth. We invite community pediatricians or pediatricians in other disciplines (e.g. Pediatric Emergency Medicine) who feel they have the necessary skill set to fulfill this role, to apply. Successful applicants will work in collaboration with the PHM team who are committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care for the unique needs of every patient and family on our service.
The Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine provides comprehensive, tertiary inpatient acute and complex care to children in Southern Alberta, SE British Columbia and SW Saskatchewan; a catchment area of approximately 3 million people. We provide 24/7 inpatient coverage for approximately 80% of hospitalized medical patients, excluding the PICU, NICU, Psychiatry and Oncology units.
Successful candidates will hold a clinical appointment in the Department of Pediatrics, with Alberta Health Services as well as a faculty appointment with the Cumming School of Medicine.
The Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine holds the aspirational vision of championing exceptional care. We have academic members with expertise in Research, Quality Improvement and Medical Education and we launched an academic Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship in July 2018. Our clinical members have diverse interests and support the academic mission of the Section. We are a very cohesive and collaborative group, while also celebrating diversity amongst us, which is viewed as a strength.
The Department of Pediatrics has over 500 clinical and academic faculty members who are part of the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary.

Qualifications:
The candidate must be eligible for an independent practice permit with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Candidates must have an established commitment to excellence in clinical care. Any expertise in medical education and/or quality improvement would be an additional asset.
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
