Position Description:
The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine, is seeking multiple locums (July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027) to provide 24/7 comprehensive inpatient pediatric care.
These positions will provide clinical care for pediatric inpatients. The clinical care may exist on a variety of either acute or complex care teams, teaching teams and admitting service and will include evening and overnight shifts in the hospital. The clinical role will include the supervision of medical students and residents. Code Blue team involvement is part of the role. There is additional professional responsibility expectations outside of the clinical role (i.e. billing, attending Section meetings, familiarizing them with any new clinical processes) including participating in small, defined roles to support the overall function of the Section, all of which is done in the individual's own time and is non-remunerated. Up-to-date CRP and PALS training is desirable but not mandated.
The Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine champions exceptional health care for hospitalized children and youth. Successful applicants will work in collaboration with the PHM team who are committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care for the unique needs of every patient and family on our service.
The Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine provides comprehensive, tertiary inpatient acute and complex care to children in Southern Alberta, SE British Columbia and SW Saskatchewan; a catchment area of approximately 3 million people. We provide 24/7 inpatient coverage for approximately 80% of hospitalized medical patients, excluding the PICU, NICU, Psychiatry and Oncology units. The successful applicants will hold a clinical appointment in the Department of Pediatrics, with Alberta Health Services as well as a faculty appointment with the Cumming School of Medicine.
The Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine has academic members with expertise in Research, Quality Improvement and Medical Education and we launched an academic Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship in July 2018. Our clinical members have diverse interests and support the academic mission of the Section. We are a very cohesive and collaborative group, while also celebrating diversity amongst us, which is viewed as a strength.
The Department of Pediatrics has over 500 clinical and academic faculty members who are part of the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary.

Qualifications:
The candidate must be eligible for an independent practice permit with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Candidates must have an established commitment to excellence in clinical care. Fellowship in Pediatric Hospital Medicine, Academic General Pediatrics or other relevant subspecialty discipline is preferred. Expertise in Medical Education, Quality Improvement or Clinical Research would be an additional asset.
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
