Alberta Health Services and the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta, invites applications for an Infectious Diseases Specialist to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital.
The successful applicant will be expected to apply for a Clinical Faculty Appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, which will be considered under a separate process through the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry.
This is a full-time position providing infectious diseases inpatient (12-20 weeks per year) as well as medical leadership for Infection Prevention and Control in the Edmonton zone. An equitable portion of after-hours coverage during weekdays is expected. On weekends/holidays, the practitioner will be expected to participate equitably in regional call coverage at the University of Alberta Hospital and Grey Nuns Hospital sites.
The successful candidate will also participate in ambulatory care of patients with infectious diseases. The ambulatory component includes provision of consultation services at the Outpatient IV Clinic on site, as well as general Infectious Diseases clinics. Appropriate training and willingness to participate in HIV longitudinal care is an option. Opportunities are also available for qualified individuals to participate in viral hepatitis care
Additionally, the successful candidate will provide clinical teaching to Infectious Diseases residents rotating on the UAH consult service as well as, rotating residents and students when on call and/or in clinics. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to clinical scholarly activity/practice improvement initiatives relevant to the site/Section of Infectious Diseases.
The infection prevention and control leadership position is a 0.3 FTE position which reports to the Provincial Medical Director, IPC and to the Medical Director, IPC, Edmonton Zone. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that standards of care are being met in the department and that support for research and teaching is available.
The position provides input into the development of policies and criteria for procedures as it relates to IPC.
The position will support the IPC portfolio through the following but not limited to:
· Provide consultation and advice on program components for AHS IPC strategic planning.
· Provide guidance and/or direction for the development of specific programs and strategies.
· Provide consultation and advice on relevant policies.
· Ensure an engagement process for physicians that promotes their understanding and participation within the IPC framework of AHS.
· Provide leadership for physicians supporting IPC service delivery.
· Liaise with the Medical Staff and staff internally and externally to AHS in matters pertaining to IPC service delivery.
· Participate in select committees, working groups and task forces as required and/or requested, as feasible.
· Assist in addressing concerns received from patients, legal representative, or family members about patient care, in conjunction with IPC senior leadership.
Qualifications:
Required:
· MD or equivalent.
· Licensed or eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
· Certification in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
· Expertise and commitment to quality care and patient safety.
· Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) in the healthcare environment.
· Understanding of Just Culture and its role in healthcare.
Preferred:
· For leadership role, leadership training/experience is viewed as an asset, but not required.
