Acute Care Alberta (ACA) invites applications for the role of Interim ACA Physician Leader, Quality and Safety.
 
This is a 0.5 FTE position. The successful candidate will provide medical leadership to the ACA Patient Safety, Quality, and Education teams, supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality acute care across Alberta.
 
Working closely with the Chief Medical Officer and the Quality Management and Improvement (QMI) teams, the Physician Leader will provide strategic leadership and expertise in quality and patient safety. The role supports the implementation of the ACA Quality and Safety Management System (QSMS). ACA has a provincial mandate across ACA and its partners, including Health Service Providers (HSPs), Provincial Health Corporations (PHCs), and Chartered Surgical Facilities (CSFs). The QSMS provides strategic direction and alignment for quality and safety prioritization, measurement, reporting, and improvement activities across the acute care system.
 
The Physician Leader will be a leader in implementation of the QSMS, ensuring strong physician engagement and collaboration across the system.
 
The role also supports a proactive approach to patient safety, in addition to providing expertise in the management of clinical adverse events. Working closely with the ACA Patient Safety team and the Leader, Quality Management and Improvement, the successful candidate will co-lead or support physician leaders involved in Quality Assurance Reviews (QARs) and other patient safety initiatives. The Physician Leader will serve on the ACA Quality Assurance Committee and contribute to advancing a proactive and learning-focused approach to patient safety across acute care.
 
Working with Quality and Patient Safety Education, the Physician Leader will support the development and review of education materials and provide physician leadership and strategic guidance when appropriate.
 
The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership capabilities in patient safety, quality improvement, physician engagement, and collaborative leadership. They will be an inclusive and forward-thinking leader with the ability to work effectively within a complex health system and multidisciplinary team.
 

Qualifications
 
Candidates must:
 
• Hold or be eligible for certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC)
• Hold or be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and appointment to the AHS Medical Staff
• Have completed Patient Safety for Leaders through AHS Provincial Patient Safety
• Have experience serving on a review team for a Quality Assurance Review (QAR) or equivalent
• Proven leadership, communication, organizational, change management, team building, and facilitation skills
• Expertise in developing and providing resources, consultation, and collaborative support to stakeholder teams
