The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary Medicine in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a Locum Clinical Physician in Interventional Pulmonary Medicine (to cover a 12‑month parental leave) to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital and at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff.
The Division of Pulmonary Medicine provides a wide range of quaternary and tertiary clinical services in Pulmonary Medicine and Allergy and is home to the second largest lung transplant program in Canada, averaging 60–80 transplants annually. The Division has a long‑standing history of excellence and an international reputation in clinical and research activities focused on airways disease and advanced interventional pulmonology. Divisional members are active in the international research community in most fields of Pulmonary Medicine, including interventional pulmonology, thoracic oncology, and lung transplantation (see Division of Pulmonary Medicine website for details).
Key Accountabilities:
Key accountabilities of the Locum Clinical Physician in Interventional Pulmonary Medicine will include, but will not be limited to, chest clinic and bronchoscopy activities within the Interventional Pulmonary Medicine group at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and the University of Alberta Hospital. The successful candidate will participate in inpatient and consult services at the UAH and will contribute to the full spectrum of interventional procedures offered by the group, including EBUS, pleural procedures, and other advanced bronchoscopic interventions. The locum will support continuity of service during a 12‑month parental leave and help maintain access targets and program stability over this period.
This is a 12‑month locum position. The successful candidate will be appointed as a clinical faculty member in the Department of Medicine at an appropriate rank, in accordance with Departmental and Faculty policies. Remuneration will be primarily through clinical billings (Fee‑for‑Service or relevant clinical funding model).
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Pulmonary Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, will have completed a fellowship in Interventional Pulmonary Medicine, and will be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA). A curriculum vitae demonstrating strong clinical competence and, ideally, an academic track record in interventional pulmonary medicine will be considered an asset for this locum competition. Individuals with a strong interest in the education of trainees and in clinical or translational research are encouraged to apply. Although this is a time‑limited locum position, there will be opportunities to participate in ongoing academic activities within the Division.
