Description:

The Section of General Surgery, Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services – Calgary Corridor and the University of Calgary Cumming School of Medicine, invite applications for a Locum Trauma General Surgeon with fellowship training in Trauma Surgery.  Start date July 1st, 2026.

The successful candidate will join a 17-member Division of General Surgery at the Foothills Medical Centre, an 1100+ inpatient bed tertiary care academic hospital.  The position will be mainly contributing to the Trauma Surgery practice group at Foothills Medical Centre which is the Level I Trauma Centre for southern Alberta and Southeastern BC.  The Trauma surgery group provides care for multi-injured patients and helps co-ordinate care with other surgical subspecialties (Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, etc).

Qualifications include:
1.    MD degree
2.    Certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC), or equivalent, in General Surgery.
3.    Clinical fellowship training in Trauma Surgery (preference to fellowships accredited by the ACS or international equivalent).
4.    Eligibility for licensure in the Province of Alberta.

Preference will be given to candidates with an academic interest in trauma surgery research, medical education leadership/administration/research (with associated training and/or proven record of accomplishment in education), and/or Global surgery. There is also an expectation to be involved in any trauma research by the group.  Instructors for ATLS, ASSET, and ATOM are also considered an asset.  The candidate will be expected to apply for a clinical academic appointment with the Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary. They are expected to be involved in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.

Qualifications:

Qualifications include an MD, a Fellowship in General Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and eligibility for licensure in the province of Alberta.
