The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services–Calgary Corridor and the University of Calgary invite applications for the position of Medical Lead Calgary Breast Cancer Surgery Program.
This leadership position is open to active members of Section of General Surgery, Calgary Corridor AHS. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated an interest in surgical leadership and will have a respected profile in the physician community. They will have effective communication skills and a track record of engaging their team members. They will have demonstrated success in areas of clinical practice and either education, research, quality improvement or leadership.
Historically there has been a Surgical Lead for the Calgary Breast Health Program as well as a Medical Director for the clinic. With both positions ending, we reviewed these positions and want to bring them more in line with other similar leadership positions.
The Medical Lead Calgary Breast Cancer Surgery Program will provide leadership in the Calgary Breast Cancer Surgery Program. They will lead a program that is patient focused, accessible and sustainable.
The Medical Lead will ensure continuous quality improvement and innovation in the program. They will:
• Develop short- and long-term goals for the program
• Identify gaps/barriers to seamless service and facilitate/propose solutions when these are encountered.
• Support the development of provincial standards and guidelines through membership of Provincial Breast Cancer committees.
• Provide/arrange education to health care professionals, patients and the public on breast cancer.
• Strategize and develop projects and services that will assist the program in becoming a national leader in the provision and measurement of safe and timely health care through the services offered by the program.
• Build relationships with stakeholders involved in the provision of care to breast cancer patients including family physicians, radiologists, surgeons, psychosocial oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, and medical genetics to bring about best practice and uniform standard of care across the continuum.
• Support UME, PGME and CME related to the program
• Support innovation and research within the program
• Represent the Breast Clinic/Surgeons at the quarterly Calgary Breast Health Program Advisory Committee meetings or assign a designate to attend
• Advise the Section and Department on recruitment priorities
Qualifications:
Qualifications include an MD in General Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and eligibility for licensure in the province of Alberta.
Must read, write and speak English.
