Ophthalmologist –  Surgical Retina Specialist

                The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services - Calgary Zone and the University of Calgary invites applications for  an Ophthalmologist – Surgical Retina Specialist. Required qualifications include an MD, certification by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada in Ophthalmology or equivalent, with a minimum one or two years accredited retina fellowship (two years is preferred). Special interest and training in uveitis or inherited retinal diseases would be an asset. The ability to help with interpretation and management of electroretinography would be an asset.  Applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.   The candidates would be expected to start as soon as possible.  This is a fee for service position.

The successful candidate will be expected to commit to retinal care, both clinical and surgical. The candidate will have regular operating room time at the Rockyview General Hospital and possible time at the chartered surgical facilities with assigned blocks according to section policy.

 

There will be an obligation to commit to retina clinics at the Rockyview Eye Clinic. The candidate will be expected to help with interpretation and management of ocular ultrasound at the Rockyview Eye Clinic. The candidate will be expected to participate in the retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) screening program at all NICUs across the city.  In addition, the successful candidate will participate in the retina on-call group in accordance with the section of Ophthalmology. 

 

The candidate will be expected to participate in medical student, resident and fellowship teaching, including direct clinical and surgical teaching and didactic lectures. There is an expectation for academic contributions in the form of research, education and administration. The candidate will be expected to collaborate and support the existing retina group. The successful candidate will become a member of the Section of Ophthalmology. The candidate will be expected to apply for a clinical appointment with the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine, Department of Surgery.
