The Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services-Calgary Zone and the University of Calgary invite applications for 2 Ophthalmologist – Oculoplastic and Orbit Specialist. Qualifications include an MD, certification by the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada in Ophthalmology or equivalent, with a minimum one or two year accredited oculoplastic and orbit fellowship. Special interest and training in pediatric plastics would be an asset. Leadership and medical educational experience is considered an asset. Applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
The successful candidate will become a member of the Section of Ophthalmology, Department of Surgery, Calgary Zone. There will be access to operating time at the Rockyview General Hospital assigned blocks, and the chartered surgical facilities for scheduled procedures. There will be an obligation to commit to clinics at the Rockyview Eye Clinic or Alberta Children’s Hospital. There will be access to operating time at Alberta Children’s Hospital for pediatric cases. They will also be required to participate in the city wide on-call schedule.
Calgary’s oculoplastics service currently provides services to all of Alberta, resulting in both tertiary and quaternary care. The successful candidate will participate and provide clinical and surgical care for the adult and pediatric population. There is an expectation to collaborate and support the current oculoplastics team for patient care. The candidate will participate in complex cases requiring multi service co-operation with other departments (ex. Otolaryngology, Neurosurgery).
The current oculoplastics program contributes academically through publications and teaching of residents and fellows. The selected candidate will be expected to apply for a clinical appointment with the University of Calgary, Cumming School of Medicine, Department of Surgery, and to participate in medical student, resident, and fellowship teaching, including direct clinical and surgical teaching and didactic lectures.They will also be expected to have academic output in the form of research, education, and administration. The candidate will contribute to departmental initiatives by serving on committees, attending meetings, and undertaking administrative responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:
Qualifications include an MD, a fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Ophthalmology. Applicants must be eligible for medical licensure in Alberta. The successful candidate must have demonstrated specific proficiency in all aspects of cataract surgery (with and without intraocular lenses).
The successful candidate will have previously demonstrated leadership skills in an academic environment and shown an interest in teaching and clinical research. Additional training in the areas of either medical education or clinical epidemiology is considered an asset.
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
