Primary Care Alberta (PCA) has an exciting leadership opportunity for a 0.25 FTE Senior Medical Director, Clinical Operations, South Sector. We are seeking a strategic, collaborative leader with deep experience in clinical services and healthcare operations to advance integrated primary care across northern Alberta.
Reporting to the Associate Chief Medical Officer, this role provides medical leadership for the development, implementation, and evaluation of strategic and operational plans that strengthen clinical operations in PCA-operated clinics. The Senior Medical Director will champion physician engagement, workforce planning, and innovative care models to improve access and quality of care for Albertans.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead physician and stakeholder engagement across PCA clinics in the South Sector, fostering collaboration and quality improvement.
· Provide guidance and oversight to medical leads, including annual development conversations.
· Drive workforce planning strategies for recruitment, retention, and succession of primary care providers.
· Contribute to a comprehensive 3-year strategic operational plan for Primary Care programs.
· Pilot and evaluate innovative models of care to enhance service delivery.
· Inform community health needs assessments to guide resource allocation and service planning.
· Ensure governance and oversight of clinical programs, equipping leadership with data for informed decision-making.
· Collaborate with provincial partners to align initiatives with system-wide priorities.
This 0.25 FTE position can be located anywhere within Alberta and are eligible for a remote/hybrid work arrangement.

Required Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be eligible for independent medical licensure in Alberta, including certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or an equivalent professional body. The SMD is expected to obtain and maintain a Medical Staff appointment.
The successful candidate will have at least three (3) years’ experience in a senior leadership role in clinical services or healthcare operations.
Experience leading major change is necessary for the success of this role.
A combination of education, experience and skills may be considered.

This position requires an individual with a successful record of achievement as a leader, including extensive experience in strategic planning and implementation. They possess a demonstrated ability to lead change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues, and are an effective communicator with strong organizational skills, client-focused orientation, and commitment to providing long term quality services. The ability to foster partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve organizational goals within a large and complex organization is required for this role.
Preferred Qualifications:
The preferred candidate possesses Canadian Certified Physical Executive (CCPE) credentials.
