Alberta Health Services (AHS) has a leadership opportunity available and invites applications for the position of:
Site Lead, Rural and Continuing Care, Infection Prevention and Control under the Calgary Zone Medical Affairs Portfolio.
AHS Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is an integrated Zone-embedded program striving for Provincial standardization while maintaining a strong site presence and focus within a designated portfolio. The Physician Contractor shall provide medical leadership as a Site Lead for the designated portfolio in partnership with other senior leaders and with AHS employees in IPC for the Calgary Zone.
In a competent and professional manner, the Physician Contractor will:
1. provide medical services and consultation if required in the role as an IPC medical services practitioner (either as a Fee For Service provider or an AMHSP member) but the accountabilities and compensation related to medical services are under a separate agreement.
2. provide medical leadership relevant to IPC as the Site Lead, Rural and Continuing Care.
3. initiate and participate in Continuing Quality Improvement initiatives as they are relevant to IPC in general and specifically to Rural and Continuing Care, and will continually strive to provide the highest quality service consistent with the available resources.
4. provide written reports of any quality improvement initiatives and where applicable publish the findings in the relevant administrative or medical literature for purposes of knowledge translation.
5. participate in the research and educational mission of IPC, including preceptorship of residents, fellows and other trainees.
6. support the IPC portfolio through the following:
• provide consultation and advice on program components for AHS IPC strategic planning.
• provide guidance and/or direction for the development of specific programs and strategies relevant to Rural and Continuing Care and the Calgary Zone.
• provide consultation and advice on relevant policies.
• ensure an engagement process for physicians that promotes their understanding and participation within the IPC framework of AHS.
• provide leadership for physicians supporting IPC service delivery.
• liaise with the Medical Staff and staff internally and externally to AHS in matters pertaining to IPC service delivery.
• Participate and /or lead in select committees, working groups, educational programs and task forces as required and/or requested, as feasible.
• assist in addressing concerns received from patients, legal representatives, or family members about patient care, in conjunction with IPC senior leadership
Qualifications include:
• Proven leadership, communication, organizational, change management, team building and facilitation skills.
• Expertise in developing and providing resources, consultation, and collaborative support to stakeholder teams.
• Ability to design, tailor, implement and evaluate effective strategies to meet identified priorities.
• Experience in supporting and promoting clinical best practice and experience as a change agent.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, well developed interpersonal skills, ability to cultivate positive relationships and passion for patient safety.
• Alberta Health Services privileges to practice at AHS and other affiliated facilities.
• Expertise or experience in infection prevention and control, medical microbiology and infectious diseases, patient safety and quality improvement methodology, pathology and an advanced degree (MSc, MPH, PhD or other advanced training) are not necessarily required, but are valued in this role.
