Position Description:
The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Pediatric Critical Care (PICU), at the Alberta Children’s Hospital invites applicants to apply for this 0.1 FTE (202 hours per annum) STEP/Code Blue Lead.
This leadership role will:
• Provide strategic planning and agenda setting with the steering committees for both Code Blue & STEP teams
• Oversee quarterly and annual data reports and event tracking to support quality improvement with the
data to be presented to the ACH Quality Council at a minimum of annually
• Conduct STEP and Code Blue monthly case reviews along with respective dyad partners along with
hospital stakeholders; facilitate ad-hoc debriefs as required including when an RLS report is submitted
relating to a Code Blue activation
• Chair quarterly CODE Blue Committee meetings
• Maintenance of Code Blue policies along with the Code Blue operational lead dyad partner
• Oversight of Code Blue cart equipment and medications along with Code Blue operational lead dyad
partner
• Education and orientation of STEP frontline staff with STEP operational lead dyad partner
• Contribution to STEP newsletters
• Supporting quality improvement projects and research with STEP and Code Blue
• Participation in PEWS (Pediatric Early Warning System) committee, data tracking and provincial
collaboration
• Supporting resident education related to STEP
The PICU provides care to 900 children per annum as mixed, closed general medical and surgical intensive care with an overall mortality of 2%. We provide extracorporeal life support, extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation, continuous renal replacement therapy, high frequency oscillation, inhaled nitric oxide therapy, as well as conventional mechanical ventilation, non-invasive ventilation and inotropic support. Pediatric cardiac surgery is not performed at the ACH.

Qualifications:
Qualifications include an MD or equivalent, certification in Pediatrics by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or equivalent. Must have certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) and Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) are desired.
Applicants must hold an Independent Practice Permit with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta and hold an existing Medical Staff Appointment with Alberta Health Services.
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
