Covenant Health and Alberta Health Services are currently recruiting a fully licensed physician to manage the medical/surgical needs of patients admitted to the Misericordia Community Hospital Plastic Surgery and Urology Services.
The physician’s role involves working under the guidance of an attending Plastic surgeon and Urologist for surgical issues related to the specialty and independently for acute medical problems and perioperative optimization. It’s a true co-management model where the surgeon is MRP but the
Surgical Hospitalist is responsible for managing medical issues under his/her scope of practice.
The accountabilities include clinical management of Plastic Surgery and Urology inpatients in the surgical wards, Day Surgery, and in outpatient wards.
The hours of coverage are: Rotations of 5 or 7 days, 24 hours coverage. Physicians are expected to be in the hospital daily at 7:30 am for the in-house duties and do home call afterwards.
- Daily duties include rounding, medication reconciliation, providing daily assessments, management and discharge planning for all patients admitted under the Plastics and Urology Services.
- Optimization of new admissions to prevent delay of surgical treatment is also a priority.
- Liaising with the interdisciplinary team, patients, and families is expected.
- Surgical assistance may be required in the absence of surgical assistants.
- Coverage of available extra shifts in the schedule is expected.
Required:
- MD or equivalent.
- Certification with the Canadian College of Family Practitioners (CCFP)
- Licensed or eligible for full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
- Appropriate Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage.
- ACLS Certification.
- Expertise and commitment to quality care and patient safety.
- Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) in the healthcare environment.
- Understanding of Just Culture and its role in healthcare.
Applicants must have current experience in the clinical management of acute care inpatients, and/or experience in emergency room services.
